Guy Mothe built up the highly successful Domaine du Colombier by starting with a tiny holding and then acquiring small parcels of land that came up for sale over the years. The Boyer family of Chateau du Cros also produce Chateau Haut-Mayne from a small vineyard covering 4 hectares. This lovely white Bordeaux, demonstrates clean minerality from the gravel soils and is harvested at perfect ripeness to obtain the most complete diffusion of the aromas. Enhanced by ageing for 9 months in vats. The wine is a blend of Semilion, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.

Château Miraval's "Clara Lua" is composed of 95% rolle and 5% grenache blanc. Rolle, which is also know as vermentino in Italy, imparts vibrant citric and slightly leesy nuances, while a touch of grenache blanc provides hints white peach and fresh herb notes. A lovely example of a Provence White.

The small appellation of Côteaux de Giennois lives in the shadow of its neighbour, the renowed Pouilly-Fume, its wines often slip under the radar and are hence excellent value. Founded in 1987 by Dr. Wolfgang Unger, and now operated by his daughter Petra, and Konrad Hackl, the 11 hectare Dr. Unger estate is located in the prestigious Kremstal and Wachau regions of Austria. Kremstal vineyards produce some of the finest Grüner Veltliners, exhibiting exotic fruits, soft texture, and distinctive pepper notes.

From the dramatic precipitous slopes of the Wachau, perched imperiously over the serpentine Danube, Weingut Prager makes some of the most intellectually satisfying Riesling in the world. Taut, with flinty, green apple notes, and hints of white pepper and capiscum, the wine will, over the next two-three years open out, revealing a richness and length that make it a perfect match for turbot, shell fish, or even sushi.

Riesling Steinriegl Smaragd shows a very clean, golden colour, with a hint of green coming through. It is fantastically shiny, and on the nose beautiful aromas of citrus fruits, smoke and exotic fruits are expressed. This is a brilliantly structured wine, both powerful and very impressive, though also gracefully elegant. All in all, a fantastic example of Smaragd, and a real pleasure to drink.

One of the less well-known Prager vineyards & wines, yet for me one of their most singular & thrilling, perhaps because Klaus is located way up the rock face at approx 550 metres above sea level, on one of the Wachau’s most exposed sites & Prager’s highest vineyard. I admire this wine for its uncompromising stance & brilliant tension; influenced no doubt by the rocky, nutrient poor soils. One for the long term, till 2019 & beyond.

A minerally Austrian wine with potent aromas of tropical fruits and white peppar, Gruner Vertliner's signature notes.

Replanted in 1990 with twenty different ancient clones drawn from Toni Bodenstein’s personal collection, this 1 hectare site lies at 400 metres overlooking the Danube; it’s a different site from that of the Veltlinber however. The net result of such terroir is a wine of bristling acidity, exquisitely balancing the 23 grams of residual sugar to brilliant effect: such purity, such weave, such joy. Drinking from 2015.

Yellow-green in colour and intensely aromatic with grapefruit and other citrus expressions. Its balance of sweetness and acidity enhances the fruity character of the wine. The finish is fresh and satisfying.

The subtle smokiness of this wine gives intensity to the flavours of lemon, ginger and spicy pear. It is fresh and lively with a zesty acidity. I recommend opening this with a savoury chicken dish.

These rich flavours are balanced by crisp acidity providing length and freshness to a finish that shows excellent persistence of flavour.

The elegant Sauvignon Blanc is alive with aromas of stone-fruit and minerals with flavours of guava and lime, one sip and you're up, up and away!

Blend of Viognier (40%), Chardonnay (30%) and Sauvignon Blanc (30%). Aromas of white flowers, citrus and ripe white fruits deliver a great complexity while on the mouth the three varieties give voluptuosity, structure and freshness to this well balanced wine.
