Beaumont wines was the first winery in South Africa to bottle a Mourvèdre - this varietal originated in Spain and traditionally planted in France to enhance classic Shiraz blends. Mourvèdre's dark, thick-skinned berries result in powerful spicy and sometimes gamey aromas in their youth. This unique wine was made from a small parcel of Mourvèdre with a low crop yield of 4 tons/ha. Grapes were harvested at full ripeness, cold soaked, fermented in concrete tanks and allowed a post maceration of 3 weeks, where after it was pressed directly into 100% French oak 400L barrels.

Bryan MacRobert has made wine with some of the Swartland's best producers, including Eben Sadie. He is now introducing some of his own wines and we're delighted to present his Abbotsdale range from the Swartland. The vineyards surround the town of Abbotsdale, 45km north of Cape Town.

This is a unique blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Great to drink young or with time in the bottle as it evolves gracefully. Floral bouquet, violets, whilst on the palate there is a balance between red fruits, purple dark fruits and spice. Well balanced palate with a matched acidity and alcohol balance that leaves you yearning for more.

Forget about your Pinotage prejudice, we searched high and low to find an elegant Pinotage and we were eventually rewarded with this gem from Sebastian Beaumont in Bot River. The 2013 vintage retains balance and finesse with its red berry, plum and cherry flavours. Fine tannins lend a firm and meaty structure to the mouth-watering fruit supported by a touch of vanilla.

A very well crafted blend of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache reflects the Swartland's affinity with Rhone varieties. Where David's Grenache is immediately appealing, this blend has a brooding meaty complexity to it that will need more time to reveal its locked in secrets. Supremely integrated tannins frame the luscious blackcurrant and mulberry fruit, fynbos and subtle vanilla. This is a wine to watch.

This is the first Pinot Noir that we have imported directly to the UK and we're delighted that it comes from Matthew van Heerden along with his superb Chardonnay. Like the Chardonnay, only 3 barrels were produced and we've brought just 240 bottles to the UK. Made with fruit from Elgin which is rapidly establishing itself as one of the cooler climates in South Africa this is a delicious, crunchy Pinot that has an enticing savoury edge. Multifaceted and elegant, we're in for a treat as this wine matures.

Syrah and Mourvèdre are grown exclusively on granite sites of higher density plantings with the most rugged of these at the very bottom of the Newton Johnson farm. Granite soil is known to bear fresh, precise and perfumed wines. This is the first edition of this estate red from the very worthy 2012 vintage and carries their typical approach of soft handling in the cellar and use of whole bunches and stems to add definition and length.

This is a fabulous addition to the Newton Johnson range introducing a very Rhône like wine with clove, pepper and incense spices intertwined with sweet blackberry fruit and judicious oak

Slightly in the shadow of the Family Pinot Noir, this is a Newton Johnson Estate wine made from younger vines and vineyards on the lower slopes that have been nurtured for the last decade or so. These younger vines could in time provide the best quality of all, however at this stage they are more preoccupied with a flirtatious, fruit assertive character.

2014 was a classic cooler vintage with crisp red fruit and more pronounced tertiary character. Sour cherry aromas with a brilliant floral display, deepened by earthy wafts of wet leaves and forest floor. Tight, youthful tannin in the mouth with red fruit drop sweetness in the middle palate. Linear finish with liquorice in the after-taste.

We asked Matthew Van Heerden to create a special Chardonnay for us and he's crafted this beautiful example with fruit from Elgin, South Africa's pre-eminent Chardonnay region. Just 1800 bottles of this lightly oaked Chardonnay have been produced and we've brought most of them to the UK. Steelier than 2013 but with delicious stone fruit flavours and judicious oak. At under £15 this is exceptional value but take 12 and it's just £12.50 per bottle!

Only fruit selected from their oldest Chenin Blanc vineyard, planted in 1978, is used for this wine. Barrel fermentation takes place in 400L French oak using only natural yeasts. Careful selection and use of oak results in perfect balance between wood aroma and fruit flavour, not wanting too much wood to overpower the Chenin grape character. No malolactic fermentation takes place in order to keep the freshness of the wine's acidity. The wine is kept on its gross lees for 10 months with regular batonage, giving the wine a richer and fuller palate. A great food wine that promises ageing ability.
