This Grenache from Carsten Migliarina continues the wave of delightfully elegant Grenache styles now emerging from the Swartland and beyond. There's an exceedingly pretty nose of red fruits, think strawberry and raspberry, with a fleeting floral component. Juicy, fresh and succulent on the palate with just enough tannin to offer some support. Delicious!
Attractive, aromatic nose of cherries, plums and a little clove. Ripe yet elegant flavours with a silky texture, backed up with some succulent oak spice and pepper on the finish. Complex and confident, this is delicious to enjoy now but will age well over the next 5-8 years.
The Kloof Street range is all about freshness, balance and great drinkability. This Southern Rhone style blend combines all these attributes to give a food friendly and approachable wine at a great price. A blend of 83% Syrah, 13% Cinsault, 4% Carignan, 2013 Kloof Street Rouge is sourced from 13 - 43 year old vines.
The Mullineux have been making wine with this fruit since 2004 - it used to go into one of the reds at Tulbagh Mountain Vineyards - and you can see why they rate it so highly. Floral, structured and pepper spicy, with a thrilling core of minerality, this Syrah is effortlessly complex and set for a long life in bottle. Beautifully focused. Drink: 2015-25
Syrah and Mourvèdre are grown exclusively on granite sites of higher density plantings with the most rugged of these at the very bottom of the Newton Johnson farm. Granite soil is known to bear fresh, precise and perfumed wines. This is the first edition of this estate red from the very worthy 2012 vintage and carries their typical approach of soft handling in the cellar and use of whole bunches and stems to add definition and length. This is a fabulous addition to the Newton Johnson range introducing a very Rhône like wine with clove, pepper and incense spices intertwined with sweet blackberry fruit and judicious oak
Slightly in the shadow of the Family Pinot Noir, this is a Newton Johnson Estate wine made from younger vines and vineyards on the lower slopes that have been nurtured for the last decade or so. These younger vines could in time provide the best quality of all, however at this stage they are more preoccupied with a flirtatious, fruit assertive character.2014 was a classic cooler vintage with crisp red fruit and more pronounced tertiary character. Sour cherry aromas with a brilliant floral display, deepened by earthy wafts of wet leaves and forest floor. Tight, youthful tannin in the mouth with red fruit drop sweetness in the middle palate. Linear finish with liquorice in the after-taste.
Our best loved Malbec is possibly even juicier, freshier and tastier still!. Bright on the nose with ripe blackberry plum fruit and sweet spice. The palate is silky and warming with more black fruit and cherries. The wine is vibrant with an alluring blend of fruit along with clove, pepper and cinnamon spice finished off with well-structured integrated tannins. A great wine with a fresh finish.
A deeply coloured, medium-bodied, spicy red with aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, perfumed, fresh Nero d'Avola. The palate combines warm, juicy red fruit flavours with savoury, lightly smoky characters, a hint of bitter chocolate and nip of tannin on the finish...Brilliant with Lamb and most red meats. Great Value and organic!!!
There is a wild ripeness of sweet orange-zest scented raspberry fruit twinned with an edgy woodland perfume. The palate is incredibly long and very rich with fleshy fruit flavours counterbalanced by a bitter, woody, character and a thread of honey.
A celebration of Mendoza - the colour, culture and flavour and a celebration of friendship. A really pure expression of Malbec, bright red and wonderfully aromatic with lifted red currant and cassis. Muy, muy fantasticó richly bloody, vibrant, Latin and velveteen.
