Abrie Beeslaar has been the winemaker at the world famous Kanonkop estate since 2002 and he is now making a small amount of his own, very special, single vineyard Pinotage. With a succession of fabulous Kanonkop wines behind him and the accolade of 2008 International Winemaker of the Year, Abrie's pedigree is first class and for him to put his own name on this wine shows how important this is to him.
From its vibrant, crimson colour to the wonderful enticing nose, everything about this vintage shows why Good Ordinary Claret is our bestselling wine by some margin. It also amply displays why Red Bordeaux (Claret) is such an endearing favourite with wine lovers everywhere. Aromas of bramble fruit, a touch of cassis and warm woody notes on the nose give way to deliciously rounded, silky fruit on the palate. Immediately enjoyable, this is perfectly balanced with a long, moreish finish.
Produced from top quality organic fruit - rich, ripe plum and cherry characters combine with spice and gentle tannins. This is a classic Rioja, full-flavoured with dark fruit and spiced mulberry characters. Perfect for a supper around the fire!
Covitoro is Toro's foremost co-operative (founded in 1974) and second largest producer, with over 1,000 hectares, and the oldest vines in the region. The Toro region is best known for premium reds. While the abundance of high quality fruit from old, gnarled, unirrigated bush-trained vines is perfectly suited to this purpose, modest grape prices also make Toro a great source of distinctive, well-made wines at more accessible prices - something at which Covitoro excels.A robust Tempranillo from Toro - perfect BBQ wine! Aromas of black fruits lead onto a rugged palate with big, concentrated, ripe blackberry and plum characters, undercurrents of dried fruit, and an edge of spice. The wine has structured tannins and a firm and savoury finish, with just a hint of dark chocolate.
2012 Vintage: "I've never quite understood why this deep and juicy, brambly jam and blackberry-flavoured red from old-vine garnacha by the Bodegas Borsao co-operative has stayed so cheap despite widespread critical acclaim. No matter: this is a genuine example of a wine that punches way above its weight." David Williams, The Observer, 19th January 2014
A deeply coloured, medium-bodied, spicy red with aromas of ripe plum and black cherry. The palate combines warm, juicy red fruit flavours with savoury, lightly smoky characters, a hint of bitter chocolate and nip of tannin on the finish.
50% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, 25% Grenache. Not pronounced, but distinctive nose: pomegranate and beetroot, orange peel, guava. Glossy intensity spreads across the palate filling all corners of the mouth with reverberating layers of flavour. Clenched with tension and intent, ambitious, beautifully balanced, tannins smouldering in the background, no single component dominating. Strong, spiced finish. Almost long, and then it just fades a tiny bit too quickly for so much delivery.
The nose is very expressive. Notes of eucalyptus, mint and liquorice dominate initially and are slowly replaced by cinnamon and juniper in a perfect harmony. The mouth, first very fresh, tightens a bit. The sensation of perfect balance between fineness of the tannins, red fruits and spices give this wine a character and a personality that is directly connected to its biodynamic origin.Syrah (40%), Grenache (30%), Mourvèdre (20%) et Carignan (10%)Alcohol 14 % vol
A Shiraz made with the Braai (BBQ) in mind!A ripe and juicy Shiraz, packed with dark fruit flavours and black pepper notes on the palate.
Big vin-est favourite...Ruby red in colour with a touch of brown creeping into the rim, the nose has good red and black fruit with notes of wood, pencil shavings, spice and vanilla.
